The “Issues”

Your Safety

My rule of thumb is “Would I be OK with mom moving here?”

And the answer is yes. But while crime can’t be eliminated completely, the goal should be to get as close as possible. I have worked with IPD closely the last 4 years to understand the trends and patterns of crime. If re-elected, I will budget for 2+ more patrol officers, and the installment of a sub-station out by WalMart.

Our Roads

Over the last 4 years, I’ve spent countless hours advocating for “point” fixes. In the last year and a half, I’ve been introduced to leadership at SCDOT and have been responsible for the placement of the 4-way stop on Royal Tower, and began the evaluation process for improvements to Chadford Rd, Lord Howe, and Woodrow. If re-elected, I will work with these contacts at SCDOT and the County to ensure the town gets our share of road-fix money.

The Broad River widening is a project everyone on council has worked hard for, and is slated to be fully completed in 2025. This will come with an additional win of a light at Royal Tower/Broad.

Parks and Community

I have supported the efforts of the events committee, and worked with the rest of town council and staff to expand the size of the community park, upgrade playground equipment, refresh the facilities at Irmo Town Park, and the soon to be completed “Rawls Creek Park” at the old tennis courts on Chadford Rd.

Advocacy

Since Irmo doesn’t OWN the roads, water, sewer - without an advocate informing you and fighting for you, the reality is yards with water leaks, sewer spills, and roads that aren’t maintained.

I’ve spent the last 4 years making calls, emailing, and working with the people over these areas. I’ve also spent hours in the statehouse advocating for changes to the “system” so that residents have more protection and support.

Overall

I have my own ideas, and views of issues. Everyone does! And I don’t believe in a hard-nosed approach when issues arise, where I’m inflexible and refuse to compromise or listen to dissent.

My approach the last 4 years has been to listen to EVERYONE. To lend an ear, with a heart of respect and desire to understand all viewpoints. My vote shouldn’t be just what I believe, but blending my views with “what is best for irmo”, “how do residents feel about this”, and “what’s the best path forward taking all views into account”
